VIZ Media Announces EST Launch for Junji Ito Uzumaki Anime Adaptation

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – October 26, 2024 – VIZ Media is thrilled to announce that the highly anticipated UZUMAKI:Animated TV Series, based on the acclaimed horror manga by Junji Ito, officially launches on Electronic Sell-Through (EST) platforms today. The four-episode series will be available for purchase across multiple platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Fandango at Home, and Microsoft Store. Horror fans can soon immerse themselves in this spine-chilling adaptation from the master of horror himself!

Produced through a collaboration between Adult Swim and Production I.G USA, “UZUMAKI:Animated TV Series” brings Junji Ito’s eerie, spiral-themed horror story to life with a unique black-and-white animation style that pays homage to the manga’s original aesthetic. With a haunting score by renowned composer Colin Stetson (Hereditary), the series promises to deliver a chilling experience that will captivate fans of the horror genre worldwide.

Official Uzumaki synopsis:
“Let’s leave this town together,” asks Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school girl who was born and grew up in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind, billowing smoke from the crematorium, and the residents is turning into spirals. People’s eyes spin in whirls, a tongue spirals, and the bodies twist unnaturally. In an attempt to escape the curse of the spirals, Kirie decides to flee from Kurouzu-cho, but can she get away from this turmoil?

This is the Anime adaptation of “Uzumaki” - one of the most internationally renowned horror masterpieces by the manga artist Junji Ito, which foreshadows the oppressive atmosphere of modern society and its disparities!

The Uzumaki anime will be available for EST through major digital platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play,  Fandango at Home, and Microsoft Store.
