Familiar faces Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield are back as members of the counter bioterroism group BSAA in this new adventure that takes place between the events of Resident Evil 4 and 5. Prior to the events of Revelations, terrorists attacked the high-tech city of Terragrigia, and they have reportedly appeared upon the SS Queen Zenobia.
Gameplay consists of controlling Jill or Chris in separate chapters, piecing together the story of their investigation. Alongside Jill and Chris are newcomers Parker Luciani and Jessica Sherawat, members of the BSAA and your companions as you journey through the dark. The feel is similar to Resident Evil 5, with combat performed in first person and the inclusion of an AI controlled partner. The camera is a third-person over-the-shoulder-view. As you explore, the top screen shows the action and the bottom shows the map and inventory. As you progress you can use and upgrade multiple weapons including pistols, shot guns, rifles and grenades.
A major feature of the game is the inclusion of the Genesis, a handheld scanning device that reveals puzzle pieces and items to help you survive. Online modes allow you to unlock additional weapons and experience different modes of multiplayer combat. Fans of the Resident Evil franchise should enjoy the inclusion of the survival horror aspects of the earlier games mixed with the action present in more recent installments in the series. The sound and video are fantastic, with plenty of scary bumps and clangs, great textures and effects and the best implementation of 3D on the handheld thus far. Revelations is a solid scare and must have for any 3DS owner.
Hint: You’re rewarded with an herb every time you scan a 100% with the Genesis. Scan often!

Ed. Note: It's nice to see Capcom go back to their roots. The franchise really took a more action-oriented turn at RE4, and RE5 even more so. And the trailer for RE6 looks almost CoD at times! This game almost feels like an apology to the old school survial horror purists. Or maybe I'm just cynical! What do you think? - UB.
