Starship Troopers is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’ve probably watched it 50+ times, and it never get’s old. And it seemed like the perfect candidate to make an amazing game, but they never got it right! This game gets killing bugs right. Dead right.
There’s not much strategy or variety, but there is a hell of a lot of bug killing. Oh, and tons of fun guns! Basically, they drop you in a level and then drop about a billion bugs or robots. You just run around killing everything with more than two legs. And there are a lot of things with more than two legs. You can also blow up buildings, bridges and just about anything you see. The destruction animation isn’t that amazing, but it is satisfying enough.
The combat is fairly straightforward and even easy, until you’re completely surrounded, then things get a bit more hectic. I can’t remember a game with so many things attacking you at once. It’s really quite fun when you’re right in the thick of it and a zillion giant ants are shooting their butt acid at you.
And while you’re committing giant bug genocide, they’ll drop health packets, armor and new weapons for you to try out on the next mission. I mostly stuck to the basics, because the machine gun and bazooka seem to work really good together, but there is quite a lot of weapon variety in the game.
The game looks really sharp on the PS Vita, I must say. Seems like a visual upgrade from the Xbox 360 version. While this isn’t an exact port of the Xbox 360 game (they’ve added new levels, a new character with a jetpack, and online multiplayer), much of the game is the same.
I’d say this game is “mindless fun” in the best possible way. It can be enjoyed by anyone with a sense of humor or an obsession with Starship Troopers. I don’t think it’ll win any awards, but it will pass the time and keep you amused. And remember, the only good bug…is a dead bug!

Hint: The game is ridiculously easy on Normal Mode. I'd up the difficulty to make things more interesting.
