This Week's Issue 10/05/15

Future grumpy New Yorker for a week and SJ Editor Urian Brown takes a look at this week's issue!

Is it just me or does every single Shonen Jump character look amazing in Kabuki makeup? Luffy especially because of the wide range of his exaggerated facial expressions. If you're wondering why he's wearing this makeup, it's because there is a One Piece kabuki play starting in Japan! With all the crazy character designs, I'd say that will make for some visually impressive kabuki. I wish they would bring it here!

One Piece
by Eiichiro Oda

It's a brand-new story arc! The Straw Hats are officially out of Dressrosa and on to their next destination. Since Dressrosa was loosely based on Spain, my officemates and I were wondering where they'd go next. We had lots of theories. None were even close. I don't think anybody could have guessed what was in store!

One Piece

Blue Exorcist
by Kazue Kato

One of the characters in this manga is having a really hard time. It's so difficult that they make a decision that they may come to regret. Get ready for a dark chapter!

Black Clover
by Yûki Tabata

The battle against the insane mage takes yet another surprising turn! Not going to ruin it, but I will say, it completely caught me off guard! That's why I love manga—you just never know!

Black Clover

World Trigger
by Daisuke Ashihara

The Rank Wars are finally done! Well, at least for a little while. Although I've enjoyed them and love Ashihara Sensei's battle art, I'm happy to get back to the larger alien-invasion aspect of the story. Get ready for some plot!

My Hero Academia
by Kohei Horikoshi

Deku's worst dream has come true! He's paired up with Bakugo for an important U.A. High exam! Can he find a way to get through to his hot-headed friend? Or will Bakugo's explosive personality blow their chances at passing?

My Hero

Toriko
by Mistutoshi Shimabukuro

Toriko's always been a little crazy, and that's one of the things I love about it. But lately, it's gone completely off the rails. And in the most wonderfully bombastic way. I'm talking cosmic end-of-the-world epic stuff! Buckle up!

Nisekoi
by Naoshi Komi

The girls in the Nisekoi universe have it tough! As if Raku not being in love with them was hard enough, they're seemingly always in danger of being married to someone they don't know. But Raku and friends are determined to stop Marika's wedding. That is if they can defeat her mom—their toughest foe yet!

Nisekoi

Samon the Summoner
by Shun Numa

It's the final JUMP START chapter of Samon the Summoner! This has been a fun manga, and I don't think I've ever read anything quite like it. The last chapter was the funniest one yet, and I hope this manga goes on to great fame and success!

Bleach
by Tite Kubo

The battle shifts to one of my, and many others', favorite captain—Shunsui! There's something about his laidback attitude about life that makes him so appealing. The outfit is really cool too. Looks like another great fight is on!

Bleach

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma
story by Yuto Tsukuda, art by Shun Saeki, Contributor Yuki Morisaki

Food Wars! has taken an unexpected turn lately. It went from wacky food battles with Soma climbing the ranks at school, to a character rescue style arc. A bold move and one that I really like. While it's fun to read crazy food battles with clothes blowing off, fighting a villain and saving the day is also really cool. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out! Can Soma save Erina? By cooking?

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign
Story by Takaya Kagami, Art by Yamato Yamamoto, Storyboards by Daisuke Furuya

Talk about major plot twists! This chapter drops a bomb that'll blow you away! What happens next will floor you! You won't believe what you read! Hope your floor is clean, because you'll be picking your jaw up from there! It's not actually quite that exciting, but it is pretty shocking and will change the way you think about some characters. Find out what it is!

Seraphof End

Naruto
by Masashi Kishimoto

Yay! A Naruto JUMP BACK! Of course, this is in celebration of Kishimoto Sensei coming to New York Comic Con, but it also happens to be one of my favorite chapters. It's after the time skip and the story takes a darker turn and things start to really get serious. Plus, a gorgeous spread of the Village Hidden in the Leaves!

Extras: Big Bundle Blowout, Boruto: Naruto the Movie Sweepstakes, Naruto App announcement, One Punch Man anime, NYCC Masashi Kishimoto plans, Nihongo Lesson, Author Comments.
