Failed inventor of the frozen wiener-shaped desert "Not-Hot-Dog" and SJ Editor Urian Brown takes a look at this week's issue.
Cover
art by Posuka Demizu
This cover says it all! The kids have finally escaped the demented orphanage! But I like to think it means Shonen Jump is so exciting, the reader can break free from the chains of boredom. Especially considering we have a massive issue this week coming in at a whopping 290 pages! Get in your comfy spot, because you'll be there awhile!
The Promised Neverland
story by Kaiu Shirai, art by Posuka Demizu
Talk about a manga that delivers each and every single chapter! The Promised Neverland is truly an exceptional title. And this week is one of the best chapters yet, because after months of planning and scheming the plucky kids are finally on the move. I don't want to ruin the surprises for you, but I will say the chapter may make you feel very different about one character in particular.
One Piece
by Eiichiro Oda
Speaking of manga that delivers, One Piece has been on fire lately and this chapter pours on more gasoline! The wedding has been crashed hard by the Straw Hats and it's total chaos. Actually, the plan was to create total chaos, but it's even more chaotic than Bege and the others accounted for. The Big Mom battle continues!
Boruto: Naruto Next Generation
creator/supervisor: Masashi Kishimoto, art by Mikio Ikemoto, script by Ukyo Kodachi
Boruto faces his greatest challenge yet--babysitting a rich, spoiled brat! It's not like you can just throw shuriken at him...or can you? It seems like Boruto is in for the most boring day of his life, but something happens that changes his whole perspective. Find out what it is!
My Hero Academia
by Kohei Horikoshi
The meeting to come up with a plan to defeat Overhaul is well underway, but tempers flare when some of the members think things aren't moving fast enough. Plus, some heroes are pressing Nighteye to use his powers of precognition to help with the battle, but he won't! Turns out there's more to him than meets the eye. I almost wrote "meets the (Night)eye," but had a premonition that it was a terrible joke and readers would hate it. Am I psychic?!
Dr. Stone
story by Riichiro Inagaki, art by Boichi
Last chapter, the gang saw mysterious smoke clouds from the distance. They say where there's smoke there's fire, and there's definitely fire in this chapter! Tsukasa enters the scene and it's not pretty! Well, he's actually kind of pretty, especially that luxurious hair. Anyway, he's one mean dude with some serious issues and it's up to Taiju and friends to figure out how to stop him!
Robot x Laserbeam
by Tadatoshi Fujimaki
Robo-kun's gone from being a robotic lad who doesn't seem to be interested in anything to someone who's finally showing some passion for something--golf! He's a genius at hitting the ball, but woefully uninformed about the actual sport. And since the big match with Yozan, he's never been the same. It looks like this robot is coming to life!
We Never Learn
by Taishi Tsutsui
Fumio's sick! It's up to the rest of the gang to come to her aid and try and get her fixed up in time for her big test! But when everyone tries to help it ends up creating even more chaos. Will everyone playing "hospital" hurt or help Fumio's chances?
Blue Exorcist
by Kazue Kato
Now that the Christmas/Birthday party is over, it's time for a big New Year's Party! But in Japan, New Years is all about hanging out with the family and Rin and the gang head to Renzo's place to meet his very large and lively family. While the party's in full swing, Rin tries to figure out exactly what is wrong with his twin. Will he finally get some answers?
Black Clover
by Yûki Tabata
One of my favorite things about this manga is its ability to surprise readers. Much of the time, it follows the blueprint for a successful Shonen Jump manga e.g. hero wants to be the best, has a cool rival, never gives up, but just when you think you've got it pegged, a chapter like this comes along and takes the story in a completely surprising direction. That's the mark of a great mangaka!
Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma
story by Yuto Tsukuda, art by Shun Saeki, contributor Yuki Morisaki
It's time to taste Soma's soba! Naturally, he's turned the contest on its head by making something unexpected in the world of gourmet cooking--yakisoba! But will the judges think his yakisoba is wacky-soba? Or will they find themselves hallucinating because it tastes so good? It's do or die as the noodles fry!
Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign
story by Takaya Kagami, art by Yamato Yamamoto, storyboards by Daisuke Furuya
This manga is getting grim! I mean, it started out pretty grim with the end of the world and vampires taking over and whatnot, but it's taken a step into the darkness lately with the Guren plotline. And this chapter adds even more intrigue and big reveals! The vampire drama and action continues!
Extras: Author Comments, Nihongo Lesson.
