Get a LEG up on your Japanese with this week's Nihongo Lesson about body parts!
By July 04, 2014

Welcome to the Nihongo Lesson feature. We strive to give you useful manga-based Japanese language tips and maybe even a glimpse into the translation process. This week’s lesson continues on the body parts theme of last week. We now move south from the face!

TE (て)

TE means “hand.” Please don’t abuse the knowledge you’ve gained in this lesson to spam “talk to the TE” jokes. That doesn’t help anyone...

YUBI (ゆび)

YUBI is “finger.” A certain Bleach character really likes using his Burner Finger on unsuspecting opponents. If Bazz-B was Japanese, his technique might be named MOERU YUBI (もえるゆび). It’s not as funny in Japanese but sounds just as dangerous.

ASHI (あし)

ASHI is “leg.” One of the recent One Piece character additions was Blue Gilly, a martial artist from the Longleg people. This guy was strong, and he sure had long, muscular legs! I’d advise you to run if you bump into Blue Gilly, but I’m not sure you’d be able to get away fast enough...

OSHIRI (おしり)

OSHIRI is “butt.” Sometimes when I think about how I’ll never be able to actually eat a roasted Butt Bug, I am overcome by a profound sadness. Gummy bears are my only comfort until I figure out how to travel to the Toriko world!
