Learning Japanese is no small feat, so let us help you!
Welcome to the Nihongo Lesson feature. We strive to give you useful manga-based Japanese language tips and maybe even a glimpse into the translation process. This week’s lesson will focus on some terms from the hilarious gag manga Naruto: Chibi Sasuke’s Sharingan Legend. This manga and many others are available for free HERE ! Make sure you check them out!
MEITANTEI (めいたんてい)
MEITANTEI means “great detective,” with the TANTEI part meaning “detective.” Sasuke has somehow taken on the role of a MEITANTEI in the latest chapter available in the free section. Would Sasuke actually make a good detective? He is very focused on his goals and he does have those Sharingan powers, so maybe this isn’t so far-fetched!
NANJIKEN (なんじけん)
NANJIKEN means something like “difficult case” or, as translated in the chapter, “perplexing problem.” Who knew the case of the pilfered pudding would end up being so complex?
TAIHO (たいほ)
TAIHO means “arrest,” as in “to be arrested by the police.” After a careful examination of the evidence by MEITANTEI Sasuke, he decides to arrest all three members of Team Taka. But is he making the right decision…?
