When is a bug more “human” than human? When he’s the leader of a vicious Chimera Ant army intent on ruling over the world!
The world is in a state of red alert. A horde of Chimera Ants, beastly creatures that have developed a keen sense of fighting, has taken over the country of East Gorteau. Their ultimate goal: world domination and dominion over all life! In retaliation against the threat posed by these strange beings, elite Hunters from all over the world, including our heroes Gon Freecss and his partner Killua Zoldyck, gather at East Gorteau.
Though at first the Chimera Ants appear to be vicious beasts, the Hunters soon learn that their opponents might have a more “human” side to them. These grotesque soldiers are becoming stronger with each passing day, and now they even know how to use nen, the innate energy that Hunters manipulate to afford them superhuman powers. Let’s take a look at some of the Chimera Ants that the Hunter Association was contracted to eliminate.
The King
Currently battling Chairman Netero.
In the isolated republic of NGL (Neo-Green Life), the queen of the Chimera Ants gives birth to a nameless King, who becomes the leader of the Chimera Ant army. The army soon grows in size and power, quickly overtaking the neighboring country of East Gorteau. At first, the King appears to be a cruel creature intent on devouring humans who exhibit a proficiency in nen (which for him means a tastier snack over regular humans). But an encounter with a human girl who bests him in a board game known as gungi awakens his compassionate side. Is this awakening enough to save the human race from annihilation?
The Royal Guards
Serving as the King’s loyal servants, these three creatures exude a frightening and murderous aura.
Pitou
Currently operating on Komugi and awaiting battle with Gon.
Pitou is a cat-like Chimera whose frightening potential prompts the chairman of all Hunters, Netero, to claim that even he might not be strong enough to defeat Pitou.
Pouf
Currently battling Morel.
A cunning butterfly-like Chimera, Pouf is the hardest to read of all the Guards. He fears the King’s “humanization” and is willing to even defy orders to prevent it.
Youpi
Currently battling Knuckle.
Youpi has the most straightforward personality amongst the Royal Guards. His brute strength coupled with his strong sense of loyalty makes him a model soldier.
The Human Wild Card
So how did the King of a merciless and militant army of Chimera Ants become more compassionate? While his sinister plan is set in motion in East Gorteau, the King becomes obsessed with playing strategy games. One by one they bring the best of the best from all different types of games. And each time, the King destroys his opponent (both in the game and real life). However, he comes across one girl who he just can’t seem to beat...
Komugi
Currently injured and being treated by Pitou.
Komugi is a champion at a board game known as gungi. She’s brought before the King and promptly defeats him. No matter how many times they play, the King just can’t win. Though he improves with each game, he notices that Komugi improves as well. In fact, during the course of their games, she suddenly awakens her nen, but the only improvement he notices is her proficiency in gungi.
Will the King realize his ambitions of world domination? And would it really be a bad thing if he became the ruler of the world? Find out by picking up Hunter x Hunter volume 27 today!
