In an alternate 19th Century, a mysterious figure known as the Millennium Earl travels from place to place seeking out people who have recently lost someone they loved. When he finds them grieving, he tells them they can make a contract to bring them back by merging their soul with one of his Dark Matter skeletons. When their soul is bound to the new body, they come under the command of the Earl, who immediately orders them to wear their beloved’s body as their new disguise! These frightening creatures are known as akuma, and in the world of D.Gray-man, the Exorcists of the Black Order use their weapons known as Innocence to protect the world from their menace!

Allen Walker

As a child, Allen made a contract with the Earl to bring back his adopted father, Mana Walker. When his father’s soul was placed in the Dark Matter skeleton, he became enraged and cursed Allen! His left eye becomes capable of seeing akuma, even when they’re disguised, and his already deformed hand morphs into a huge anti-akuma weapon, his parasitic Innocence! After this traumatic incident, Mana’s friend Cross Marian took on Allen as a disciple and trained him until he was ready to join the ranks of the Black Order!

Yu Kanda

Stoic pretty-boy Yu Kanda’s not too friendly to his fellow exorcists, but he always completes any mission he’s sent on no matter the cost. Kanda fights with his sword Mugen, an equipment-type Innocence that uses techniques to either summon creatures or strengthen his body in battle.

Lenalee Lee

Lenalee Lee lost her parents to an akuma in her childhood and was forced to become an Exorcist due to her compatibility with the equipment-type Innocence, Dark Boots. Since her only remaining family was her brother, Komui Lee, she wanted to be with him as much as she could and repeatedly attempted to escape her duties. Komui joined the Black Order so her sister would finally accept her responsibilities. Now brother and sister work together to fight the akuma menace!

Lavi

Lavi's a chipper young man who works with the man he’ll one day replace—Bookman. Bookman watches the war between the Exorcists and the Earl from a distance and records it all impartially. Lavi’s Innocence is the Iron Hammer (affectionately nicknamed Big Hammer, Little Hammer by Lavi), which can change size, length, and even control the elements!
