After a much-needed change of scenery (giant squids and other perils aside) in the previous volume, Blue Exorcist volume 10 heads on back to the main storyline.

With their return to True Cross Academy, things are finally looking peaceful for Rin and his friends—everyone seems to be more or less at terms with his demonic heritage, and it even looks like Rin’s made a new friend in class! But we all know the peace can’t last for long...

Rin finds his new friend Godaiin suddenly plagued with the ability to see demons. Meanwhile, a new threat in the deserts of Yemen has even the ever-confident Paladin Arthur A. Angel on edge.

 Assiah is at risk of invasion by Gehenna now more than ever, and it certainly doesn’t help that Mephisto only continues to cause more mischief. The mysteries in this volume keep piling up on one another as Mephisto invites Rin over for a heart-to-heart chat, which quickly turns ugly—we even get to see the Earth King Amaimon (who graces this volume’s cover, much to my delight) again.

Yukio still has his fair share of secrets as well, especially towards his brother. Regardless of the growing tensions between Rin, Yukio, and Mephisto, the Exwires all band together smashingly as Mephisto sends them on a special mission to tackle the Academy’s “Seven Mysteries.” Things get wacky as Rin and the guys face off against a cross-dressing ghost bride who's lusting for a kiss.

This volume also features some mad girl power as Shiemi and Izumo team up against a trash-talking banshee in the girl’s dormitory bathroom. Keeping wiht the spirit of drag, the boys don women's clothing to come to the girls' aid—the image of Rin with fake boobs will be burned into my retinas forever.

But even in the midst of all the heroism and cross-dressing hilarity, Yukio seems to be taking matters too seriously as always. What does he know that the Exwires don’t? …And just how are these Seven Mysteries connected to Mephisto and the rapidly growing threat of Gehenna?!

After the crazy cliffhanger end of this Volume, things calm down with a fun bonus chapter in which Shima and Izumo (sort of) go on a date! There are also tons of other cute bonus pages to celebrate the series reaching its tenth volume.
