Dragon Tamers!

Tame the dragons in your Deck!

By John Bae July 07, 2016

July 8th is the day that we welcome our new draconic overlords from the Rise of the True Dragons Structure Deck, but before they get here there’s one thing left to talk about: getting your best Dragons out of the Deck in the first place!

Ygo Felgrand 1

Paladin of Felgrand is your all-in-one monster searcher and Summoner. If you Normal or Special Summon Paladin, you can equip any Level 7 or 8 Dragon from your hand or Deck to him. As a bonus, this makes him unaffected by other monster effects while that monster is equipped. You can also Tribute Paladin along with another monster to Special Summon any Level 7 or 8 Dragon from your Graveyard. You do need at least one eligible Dragon in the Graveyard before you can activate that effect, but once you do, any Level 7 or 8 Dragon is fair game—including the one that was previously equipped!

To make things easier, you can use Ruins of the Divine Dragon Lords to send the Dragon equipped to Paladin of Felgrand to the Graveyard and Summon a Token to replace it. That gives you the target for Paladin’s effect and the other monster you need to Tribute in order to use it! On top of that, Ruins of the Divine Dragon Lords will stick around to negate the effects of monsters that are Special Summoned from anywhere but the Graveyard.

If all of that seems too complicated, then try using Dragon Knight of Creation instead. You can send it to the Graveyard along with a card from your hand to Special Summon a Level 7 or 8 Dragon from your Graveyard. Don’t have any Dragons? Destroy a monster in battle with Dragon Knight of Creation and you can send any Level 7 or 8 Dragon from your Deck to the Graveyard. Dragon Knight of Creation even becomes Level 8 during your opponent’s turn so you can negate effects with Ruins of the Divine Dragon Lords even when your Deck isn’t firing on all cylinders.

The Rise of the True Dragons Structure Deck launches on July 8, but that’s not the only big news in the world of Dueling! The North American World Championship Qualifier is this weekend!
