Deck-Building Blocks: Spell-Bent on Victory

This month, SJ Alpha is here to help noob Duelists with some basic, easy-to-use Yu-Gi-Oh! cards that can get them started. Last time we covered monsters, so this time we’ll cover mojo. Open your Tomes of Eldritch Lore, because it’s time for some Spells.

His Terrible Not-So-Swift Sword
Back against the wall? Activate Swords of Revealing Light to hold your opponent’s attacks off for three turns. Revealing all monsters set on his or her side of the field is an added bonus.

We Will Meet Again
Partings aren’t forever. Monster Reborn lets you Special Summon a fallen monster to your side of the field. Even better, you can apply its effect to either player’s Graveyard. Reunions become a lot less fun for your opponents if they meet their own monster on your field.

Strength in Numbers
Show your team spirit with Equip Spells! United We Stand gives its wearer 800 ATK for every monster on your Field. Its counterpart, Mage Power, gives 500 ATK for every Spell or Trap on your field.  Think your opponent’s feeling lucky?

Onward To Battle
Want to turn your monster into an invincible engine of destruction? Look no farther than Full-Strike Force. For a single turn, its target gains immunity in battle, taking no battle damage and KO’s any monster it fights, bar none. Try to combine it with a monster that can attack multiple times for true devastation. (But, as always, stay wary of hostile card effects.)

Washing It All Away
Sometimes you’ll need to clear the air. Heavy Storm wipes out all Spell and Trap cards on both Fields while Dark Hole swallows up the Monsters. Remember, though: your own cards will bite it too, so timing is everything.

Other Cards
Also try these for a little extra jinxification: Mystical Space Typhoon, Ekibyo Drakmord, Cost Down, Fiend's Sanctuary, Ego Boost, Monster Reincarnation, Double Summon, Rocket Pilder, Pot of Avarice and Smashing Ground.
