Lots of people are talking about the brand-new Bujin monsters from Judgment of the Light! If you haven’t heard of them yet, you will soon, so here’s a basic primer on how they work!

The core of any Bujin Deck is going to be Bujin Yamato. Yamato packs a nice 1800 ATK, making it large enough to be a threat on its own. During each of your End Phases, Yamato will let you search out any Bujin monster in your Deck, then send any card from your hand to the Graveyard. This effect is incredibly powerful, setting up your entire strategy when used with the Bujingi monsters that hold Yamato’s sealed powers.

Most Bujingi come in two varieties: the kind that activate directly from your hand through effects and the kind that activates when banished from your Graveyard. You can send Bujin Crane from your hand to the Graveyard to make Bujin Yamato a 3600 ATK monster when it battles a monster. Or use Bujin Ophidian to bypass your opponent’s monsters entirely! Alternatively, if you have Bujin Quilin or Bujin Turtle in your Graveyard, you can banish them to use their effects. Quilin will destroy any face-up card while you control a Beast-Warrior Bujin monster. Turtle will negate anything targeting any Bujin! With Bujin Yamato, you can search out the specific Bujingi you need from your Deck each turn. Since Yamato also sends a card to the Graveyard, you can get your Graveyard-reliant Bujingi right where you want them.

The final piece of this strategy is the Beast-Warrior Xyz Monster Bujintei Susanowo. This monster packs two incredibly powerful effects. First, it can direct a single attack to each monster your opponent controls. With 2400 ATK, that usually means you’re wiping out everything in sight! Next, you can detach an Xyz Material from Susanowo to take any Bujin monster from your Deck and either add it to your hand or send it to the Graveyard. That lets it fill the role of Yamato, grabbing any Bujingi you need and prepping them for their effects. Susanowo can instantly protect itself with Bujingi Turtle, take out a bigger monster with Bujingi Crane, or simply grab another Bujin Yamato so you can set up two Bujingi each turn!

Not only do the Bujin have fantastic monster effects, they’re backed by some all-star Spells and Traps too! Bujin Regalia – The Sword is a great surprise to spring. This Trap Card lets you reuse any of your Bujingi—either by returning one from your Graveyard to your hand or by putting a banished Bujingi back in the Graveyard! There’s also the Spell Card Bujincarnation. This incredible spell Special Summons two Bujin monsters—one from your Graveyard and one that was banished. With Bujincarnation, you’ve got a way to instantly Xyz Summon Bujintei Susanowo and reuse a banished Bujingi all at once!

The Bujin strategy strong and a ton of fun, so keep an eye out for all these great monsters in Judgment of the Light!
